2009 Golden Jubilee Icon (please allow 7-10 days for shipping)
This unique icon was scripted by Reverend Richard G. Cannuli, OSA, for the golden jubilee of the Holy Family Hermitage, September 8, 2009. The Hermitage’s coat of arms is in the upper center.
On the right stands Saint Romuald (952-1027), the founder of the Camaldoli, who holds a ladder that recalls the Jacob-like vision that preceded his foundation. His left hand also grasps a crook resting in the stream of the Spirit, while his extended right hand passes on the eremitic tradition.
On the left, the Camaldolese reformer Blessed Paul Giustiniani (1476-1528) is standing. His left hand is extended to receive from St. Romuald “a double portion of his spirit” (cf. 2 Kings 2:9). The scroll in his right hand pays tribute to his predecessor in the words of St. Bruno-Boniface: “The father of rational hermits, who live according to a law,” thus fulfilling the precept of St. Paul (Romans 12:10), “in honor preferring one another.”
